The Corkscrew Inn is a completely restored heritage house on a quiet street two blocks from the ocean. Our neighbourhood is called Kitsilano, and is one of the earliest residential districts of Vancouver. Our house, in the classic frame style, seasoned with Edwardian and Craftsman components, was built in 1912 and substantially re-built 90 years later. The safeguards (sprinklers, smoke alarms, security system) and comforts (in-floor heat, ensuite bathrooms) of modern homes have been discreetly incorporated into the design.In the process, we restored or re-used as much of the original building material as we could, and we're very proud of the result. In April, 2004, we were honoured to receive a Heritage Award from the City of Vancouver. We hope you'll make yourself at home here. We encourage guests to make full use of the common areas. Don't be concerned that you are intruding on the innkeeper's privacy; we have our own space. |

Our HouseBuilt in 1912, modified and neglected in the ensuing decades, and restored in 2002.Living RoomThe cozy parlour welcomes you in from your winter walk on the beach. Brew yourself a pot of tea or coffee (if you haven't made a detour to our neighbourhood wine store) and relax beside the fire or view the corkscrews on exhibit. Dining RoomIn our dining room is the guest sideboard with a sink, kettle, French press coffee pot, teapot, many teas, hot chocolate, and a fridge containing ground coffee, yogurt, cream and milk. Fresh fruit is on the dining room table. Other late afternoon or midnight (depending on your time zone) snack items include cookies, biscuits and cereal.South VerandaThe spacious veranda with its sunny southern exposure is the ideal spot for morning coffee, an afternoon read, or a summer evening picnic.GardenWe hope you'll enjoy relaxing in our quiet garden.Stairs lead down to the garden from the north veranda (our only smoking area) . Wine MuseumThe door on the west side of the house leads to our wine cellar-museum. Plan ahead for a candle lit dinner; lots of nearby restaurants offer carry-out meals. |
