This area of Vancouver was forest until after 1909, when the first streetcar line opened on 4th Avenue, two blocks south of us. A building boom occurred in 1910 - 1913, and our neighbourhood retains many of the original homes constructed in that time. Why stay in Kits?If you've spent any time in Vancouver, we don't need to tell you why Kitsilano is an even better place to stay than the downtown peninsula. But if you've never been here, you need to know what our neighbourhood has to offer. Ocean and beaches... The quiet Point Grey foreshore, a natural stretch of beach, is two short blocks from our door (we'll lend you a picnic basket); Kitsilano Beach Park is an easy six blocks east. Dining... Dozens of good restaurants are nearby; some of Vancouver's favourites are within a ten-minute walk. Shopping ... While downtown's trendy Robson Street is easy to get to, we recommend the hundreds of shops of all sorts to be found nearby on Fourth Avenue and on Broadway. South Granville is where the private art galleries cluster. Arts and Entertainment... Granville Island, with its famous public market, artisan shops, theatres, museums, boat rentals, restaurants and micro-breweries, is easy to get to by foot or wheel. Into live music? Great sounds can be heard at several local venues. Well-being... Walking, running, swimming, tennis, yoga, spas: Kitsilano has everything you need. Leave the late-night traffic noise downtown when you come home to the Corkscrew Inn after an evening out. Convenience for the business traveller... The downtown core is a ten-minute drive or twenty-minute bus ride away. Academic business? The University of British Columbia is about fifteen minutes away by car or express bus. |
